Ready to B the Change

T4G is heading into 2018 as a certified B Corp.

T4G has spent 2017 on a journey to become a B Corp. Now we’re proud to announce that we’ve officially been certified.

Certified B Corporations are leading a global movement of people using business as a force for good. To be certified as a B Corp, a company must “meet the highest standards of overall social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability and aspire to use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.”

Why Be a B?

B Corp’s values are a natural fit for T4G. This made the decision to become a B Corp an easy one. Being a B Corp means considering people, the environment, and communities as important as profits and shareholders. We have long believed this too. Giving back to our local communities and caring about our fellow employees are at the core of who we are.

“We believe, naively or not, that we can change the world.”

– Geoff Flood, T4G President

Proud of the Company We Keep

Becoming a B Corp puts us in company we are proud to keep. We’re joining a group of just more than 2100 leading organizations in 50 countries. Some of the other B Corps we’re proud to stand among are Patagonia, Ben & Jerry’s, Warby Parker, New Resource Bank, and Dansko.

Excited To Be a B!

So, why are T4Gers excited that we’ve become a B? We asked around and got some great answers.

I’m excited about T4G becoming a B Corp because I think it aligns with our values as an environmentally and socially conscious company, and shows that we are continuing to pursue those values as a company. It’s great to think we’re doing great things – but so much better to see that we’re not mistaken, and that we are in fact doing great things relative to others in our space.

– Chris Campbell, BU Lead

I think it’s important because although we all have the best intentions, sometimes the path to helping our communities succeed, to being environmentally conscious, and to being accountable and transparent is not obvious. Becoming a B Corp will give us the framework to do this better, and I want to help, wherever I can.

– Monica Spence, Facilities Manager

The B Corp designation provides a convenient yardstick for us to explain to the world what we are up to. It’s good to be among like minds. We can learn from each other and do better still.

– Bong Chan, QA Specialist

For the 15 years I have been with T4G, the question has been: How will you change the world? This certification is a natural progression. It’s adding a little more structure to the way we’ve operated for years. Life is more than just working, it’s about building the life and community needed to make your day better than before. With each positive change, we collectively will make a difference, not just to ourselves and our communities but to the world as a whole.

– Lindsay MacDonald, BU Lead

Here are three reasons I’m excited T4G is now B Corp certified. First, it means we’re joining in a movement (with many other companies) that uses business as a force to do good in the world. Second, it adds credibility to the good that we already do; this certification demonstrates things that are already core to the company. Third, it plants the seed for T4Gers to explore what other good we can do as part of our new B Corp status.

– Sara Taaffe, Public Sector Analyst

I’m excited to see T4G become a B Corp because it signals to the world that we are committing to a socially-responsible role. This is both critical and necessary in today’s climate. It will bring a new group of potential collaborators (employees and clients), and most importantly, it will offer us a yardstick to measure ourselves against and to provide guidance for progress.

– Danielle Leighton, Advanced Analytics SME

Where Do We Go From Here?

We know our journey isn’t over now that we have the B Corp label. In reality, it’s just the beginning. We want to be better – for our people, for our environment, and for our communities. Now that the official certification process is over, we have more work to do. We’re turning to our people to ask them how they want to demonstrate the values of B. Now, we’re having conversations and setting plans in place around initiatives that matter to T4Gers. We’ve decided on a few places to start. We’re focusing on working with more socially conscious suppliers. We want to become better at tracking and reducing the energy we consume. We intend to increase diversity in our work places. We’re committed to encouraging our people to become involved in community projects that matter to them.

These are just a few of the ways we plan to meet our obligations as a B Corp and to be the change we want to see in the world. We can’t wait to see what 2018 will bring!
